Vellum was designed to bring together three distinct materials; aluminium, copper, and forged carbon fibre, each chosen for their visual contrast and functional strengths. Designed for outdoor use, the form and finishes were carefully considered to withstand the elements while delivering a sculptural presence. Light is softly diffused through polypropylene backing, creating an even, welcoming glow.

The Opportunity
Outdoor lights are often either overly utilitarian or too delicate to survive long-term exposure. The challenge was to create a fixture that felt refined and expressive, while also addressing corrosion, water drainage, and material durability.
The Solution
The aluminium body was chromated for corrosion resistance and shaped into a pill-like form to encourage water runoff. Forged carbon fibre provides a lightweight yet strong housing for the light strips, while a waterjet-cut copper face, inspired by generative growth patterns, adds a decorative layer. Behind the copper, polypropylene diffuses the light to create a soft, even spread.
